Nuku’alofa, Tonga -– The Pacific Community (SPC) through the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) programme, spearheaded a Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Training at the Tanoa Hotel, Nuku’alofa in Tonga from 22 to 24 August 2023. The training involved officers from the Ministry of Fisheries, Tonga and aimed at applying gender equity and social inclusion lenses in fisheries with a focus focussing on coastal fisheries working with the Special Management Areas programme.

To support Women in Fisheries Network- Fiji Call for Action the PEUMP Programme organised and facilitated a GESI training to build knowledge and understanding of WiFN-Fiji staff and community members on GESI concepts and how they relate to and matter in the fisheries sector.

Pacific Harbour, Fiji - A book launch was held in Pacific Harbour, Fiji on the occasion the European Union (EU) -Pacific Policy Dialogue Roundtable on oceans meeting, led by the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) Programme with the participation of national delegates and programme partners.

In 2007 over half of all exports of the country consisted of fishery products and about a quarter of all households received some income from fishing. To that effect, we are thrilled to announce the completion of Samoa’s first batch of graduates in the micro qualification training on establishing and operating a small seafood business.
