Eria Rurunga, a current IT business owner, is embarking on a new journey by expanding his entrepreneurial ventures into the seafood industry. At 35 years old, Eria, who owns E-Tech Solutions, a small computer repair business, is now eager to establish Seafood E-Makete, an online platform dedicated to seafood trading in Kiribati.
Honiara, Solomon Islands – Thirty national experts in the Solomon Islands gathered for a two- day workshop to review the first-ever zero-draft marine spatial plan for the Solomon Islands. The zero-draft map was produced by IUCN following a series of technical Geographical Information System (GIS) and prioritisation analysis with the inclusion of data from national and community consultations and input from experts over the last three years.
Representatives from key Ministries and non-government organisations met in Honiara to plan activities to support Government and coastal communities achieve their protected marine species conservation priorities.
Honiara, Solomon Islands – Eighteen Solomon Islanders are now further equipped with skills and knowledge to operate seafood businesses’ after gaining a Micro-Qualification in Establishing and Operating a Small Seafood Business.
This was made possible through scholarships awarded by the University of the South Pacific (USP) as part of the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) Programme funded by the European Union and the Government of Sweden.

Fifteen Solomon Islanders are now the first in their country to get awarded a Micro-Qualification in Maintaining Seafood Safety and Quality through scholarships funded through the University of the South Pacific (USP) Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership Programme (PEUMP).
Six women were part of this two-week face-face cohort held in the capital of Solomon Islands, Honiara delivered in collaboration with the USP- Pacific Technical and Further Education (TAFE).
